Garage Door Blog

My dad, owner of DDM Garage Doors started up a blog today. He plans to talk about some of his experiences and offer various tips to those who repair their own doors. It’s one of few, if not the first blog, in the garage door repair industry. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of response it generates.

    Gavin –

I keep bugging him and reminding him that he needs to post on it again or people will lose interest. I think he fully intends on posting, but he keeps pretty busy and doesn’t have a lot of extra time. I’ll send him a reminder to let him know that at least one person is interested in reading what he has to say!

I have a stanley opener (yea, i know they dont make anymore). It is very dependable and not too ancient but has developed a new problem which I’m hoping someone might help diagnose so I can fix.

The power goes out to the unit after shutting.
That is the problem. No power.

Now if you manually disengage the door and slam it back into the chain hook thing, power comes back on and the door will operate but then it shuts down again.
It is not an electrical supply problem but I’m wondering if this is not some sort of auto-reset thing meaning the motor is being taxed somehow or something? The door seems to glide easily enough manually but now (the 3rd day of the problem) the door seems to die after only lifting it a short distance.
The door/opener doesn’t get abused, the most it is opened/closed is twice a day.
    Any input or speculation welcomed.
