I took a quick glance at my Web site statistics this evening and noticed that someone came across my site while trying to figure out how to import MySpace blog posts into Facebook’s Notes feature. So, I figured I’d write a brief tutorial to aid anyone else who is interested in doing this.
Before beginning, you must know your MySpace Friend ID. This is a numerical value … it is not the name used in the URL for your MySpace page. Since I’m not actually much of a MySpace user (the whole BlogSCL, PageSite, and erichmusick.com bit precludes the need for such a service), I’m not sure of the best way to find this value. However, one way to do this is to go to your MySpace page, hover over the link that says “View All Blog Entries” and look at the number that comes after the text friendID=. Once you have this number, follow these steps:
- Log on to Facebook
- Click My Notes
- If you have not already imported a blog, you will see a box that asks, “Would you like to import a blog?” followed by the text: “To import your blog, click here.” Click that link.
- For the Web URL, enter http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?friendID={id}. Replace {id} with your MySpace Friend ID.
- Check the box if you agree to Facebook’s terms for importing a blog.
- Click the Start Importing button.
Hi Erich, I really appreciate you providing advice on this.
Got a question, I tried the above and got a message from Facebook saying “The feed URL you provided doesn’t contain any data”
Do you know what might be happening?
Ben
Ben –
I’m not sure why you’re getting that error. I never really use Myspace, but I figured that since some people were finding my web site with certain keywords, I did a little research and wrote up these directions.
My guess would be that, for some reason, Myspace isn’t exporting your posts in the RSS feed. I wonder if there’s some configuration option that turns this on/off?
Sorry I can’t be of more help!

That’s cool, thanks Eric
I would guess there is some sort of block going on by MySpace.
Ok, thanks for your advice, much appreciated
Ben
It’s gotta be your blog set to be viewed by friends only?
Try changing that to public view and redo.
Where is the My Notes on FB? I dont have it on my FB account?
On the left side, under “Applications,” click “Notes”.
Then, once that page loads, click the “My Notes” link at the top of the page.
If “Notes” isn’t one of the options under Applications, you’ll need to add the Notes application to your account. You can do this by searching the application directory for “Notes”.
Hi Eric,
My blog is importing ok, but it only goes back about a dozen entries or so and not the whole blog. Do you know any way I could get the whole thing to import?
Thanks!
Mark
Hi Mark –
It sounds like MySpace is capping the number of blog entries it exports. I’m not sure whether there is an option on there to change it.
As you post new stuff on MySpace, however, those new items will be imported into Facebook, without deleting the previous 12. So, as you write more, it will post more to your Facebook account.
Hope this helps!
Happy Thanksgiving!
